THE 4 LIFE FOUNDATION PROGRAMS
Anti-Violence Sports Program
4LF runs numerous weekly activities with hundreds of teens (and pre-teens) participating. Every Tuesday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday night there is a free basket-ball league run by volunteers. Kids can come and play in an atmosphere of respect, fun and safety. The basket-ball program mostly targets teens ages 12-18.
Every Monday night the 4LF has a free ball hockey league. There is a minimum age (12+) for this league, but it also includes adults. This has been extremely positive as fathers bring out their sons/daughters to play together.
4LF partners with the Toronto Police Department as well as the Toronto Argonauts for the Brett Crother’s Memorial Basket-Ball tournament. Brett was a 20 year old male who was shot and killed in November 2002. Hundreds of teens (male and female) attend this event and are impacted through testimonies from local heroes, politicians and other teens. Brett’s parents also attend and speak passionately about the problem of youth violence in the city of Toronto.
Free Computer Classes
4LF runs free basic and intermediate computer classes on Wednesday evening (7-9pm) and Saturday afternoon (1-3pm). The classes consist of an 8 week session and are attended by a wide variety of students from seniors to new immigrants to anyone who wants to know the basics of using a computer. The classes cover basic computer skills, Microsoft Word, Excel, the Internet and much more. Extremely talented volunteers run the classes (teaching and coordinating).
Free English Classes
4LF runs free English as a Second Language classes (ESL) every Thursday 6-8pm. A world-renowned curriculum is used and new immigrants are provided with a place to come and learn English as well Canadian cultural traditions (such as Thanksgiving). This is all run by volunteers (some former professional teachers). Relationships are formed through the integration of many cultural groups. Friendships are established and strengthened between students, teachers and families in the community.
Life Skills Classes
4LF is dedicated to assisting low income and new immigrant peoples find their place within the community. The 4Life Foundation partners with numerous other organizations in helping people find jobs. A variety of subjects are covered including resume writing, job interview techniques and much more.
Food Distribution
The 4Life Foundation partners with organizations such as No Frills, Second Harvest, Loblaws, Costco, Wal-mart and others to provide free food to those who are in need. An interview process has been implemented to ensure that there is no abuse of the system, but thousands of people are helped throughout the year. During Christmas, Thanksgiving and Easter 4LF partners with numerous other city charities in providing hundreds of people with turkey dinners for themselves and their families.
